Camping and Campfires: Keep Life Simple

Why Camping?

Top Ten Reasons to Go Camping Tik Tok
"It's a good life." Sitting at the fire, DC will remind me of this now and again.  Which is needed, especially now.  The end of the school year is upon us, and I have never been more overwhelmed.  Kids are tired, teachers are tired, the school is tired.  Sometimes, something simple is needed to remember how good life is.

So when DC said let's go camping, there was no hesitation.   Memorial day weekend, only one night open.  Bishop Lake State Park.

We took it.

Which people will cringe at.  Why go camping for just one night?  It's so much work.
By keeping things simple, one night of camping is a quick getaway and far cheaper than a hotel.

You need a tent.
You need a sleeping bag.
(You need an air mattress if you like your body)
Some firewood (and Firestarter if you aren't from the UP where starting fires comes naturally.)

That's it.  Sure, you can bring food.  But if you're a novice camper and you just want to get away, bring some hotdogs and chips.  You'll be fine.

After we set up, DC sits by the fire to read and I walk.  We really love Bishop Lake State Park.  Tucked away on the outskirts of the city, it has everything you need without needing to go far.  While there is a more modern campground, we prefer the secluded sites on Murray Lake, or Appleton during the week when Murray is closed.

There's the beach, and books, and a little bit of something for everyone.  A few hours of walking, hiking, and reading before sitting at the campfire.
Night falls and there's a stillness camping you don't get everywhere.  There's this moment in which the campground settles in for the night and the fire becomes the only light.
(This fire is a little bit more on the expert side.  DC drilled a hole to create a chimney effect.  Coloring is natural!)

Then at breakfast the next morning, (which does just taste better over fire) listening to the campground the wildlife around us, an appreciation for just being present was clear.

"Camping is good for the soul".  DC's comment at the end of the trip and landed just when I needed it most.

How often do we think about finding a little peace in our soul?  How often do we jump on last minute plans to get away from it all and just be.
We love tent camping.  And as we press on to the end of the year, a few moments of peace are worth booking a one night quick trip.  So find your campsite, pull up next to the fire, and find a little bit of peace when you need it the most.
Cheers to getting to the end of the year!

Side Note: These tumblers are pretty amazing.  The ice from the night before was still there in the morning!  They are on our site HERE.  (Remember, we are Amazon affiliates because we're teachers and everything helps us continue to travel and teach.  We appreciate you!)
