Passport to Reading

How do you get students to WANT to learn?

This is our why.

When we talked about travel and teaching travel, reading was at the center of it.

We're both readers, we love history and learning, and we always want to share what we learn with others.  When thinking about how to get this started in a classroom, we landed on a reading passport.

Do you have a Passport?

If the answer is no... stop reading and click HERE.

A reading log serves a purpose to compliantly track reading minutes at home.  A passport changes the why.

Why do we read?

Reading will teach and take them far outside of our classroom walls.

A Reading Passport

To get to a far away place, you need an actual passport.

So why not treat reading the same way with a Reading Passport.

We created this editable slide for you to both teach about passports and provide a way for students to think about reading in a different way.  The essential question being:  Where are you going when you read?

Teach life in Context

For our students today, reality is the name of the game.  They live in a world of technology with videos and information at their fingertips.  However, if they don't have real examples, the videos simple show things they haven't experience.

TEACH IN CONTEXT.  Create real life examples of what you're teaching to bring the outside world into your classroom.

The students that owned passports connected to this concept immediately in their classroom.
