Iceland is an incredible country to visit for adventure.  Planning a trip that is affordable is daunting.  Here is our quick start guide.
We are Amazon Affiliate's and may earn a small compensation from links at no cost to you.  Links marked.
Flight:
Flights to Iceland are typically direct and affordable.  Depending on where you get a flight from and the time of year, you can find flights between $300 and $500.

Currency:
Iceland's currency is called the Kroner and it took us time to get quick at converting to American dollars.  It is important to learn the conversation, as costs can quickly add up when paying.  1.000 is verbalized as "1,000 Kroner".  Doing estimated math, 1.000 Kroner is roughly 7.00 USD.  So, 500 Kroner was about $3.50, 2.000 Kroner was about $14, 3.000 $21 and so on and so forth.  21.000 Kroner.... is a lot of money.
Lodging and Transportation:

Iceland is a country of roughly 350,000 people.  It gets about 2 million tourists a year.  It's infrastructure for hotels and Airbnb's is growing, but the demand is high and supply is low.  This makes standard accommodations expensive.
We recommend renting a campervan.  This combines your transportation and lodging in one.  We can't wait to share.  It was well worth the experience.

Purchase List:

The last must have item is the planning map from Rick Steve's found HERE. (affiliate link)  This map was our starting point and really helpful.  HOWEVER...and that's a big however... Iceland is rapidly changing and we learned there is more to see.  We'll share how you can expand your trip and what we found that became EXTREMELY helpful.  For now, start with this map to see the highlights.
This list also includes must have items for campervan life.
Let's get started on your Iceland trip!
Here's the summary:
  1. Find a direct flight
  2. Learn the currency for price comparison
  3. Decide on lodging and transportation.
  4. Buy your planning map and must needed items to have the right mindset!

Coming up next:  Walking the Bridge Between two Continents.  And here's a sneak peak at Gullfoss. See you soon!
