Eben Ice Caves:  Snowshoeing in the Upper Peninsula

3/4/2025

The upper peninsula of Michigan offers excitement and adventure year round.  This winter, we took time to go snowshoeing to explore the Eben Ice Caves.

Located just east of Marquette off of Route 94, the Eben Ice Cave Trailhead sits just off the main road.  You'll follow the drive back into the parking lot, which houses the start of the hike.  Follow the yellow signs along the way.
The hike is about a mile and a half in and out.  It's essential to have the right footwear.  The end of the hike is steep.  Having either showshoes or icecleats are highly recommened. (Find our recommendations HERE!  We are Amazon Associates and make a small compensation from qualifying purchases,)

The hike through the woods is peaceful and serene.  The snowcovered trees the day we hiked provided a great backdrop for a winter adventure.
The Ice Caves are an incredible find at the end of the hike.  As water melts and flows over the edge of the cliffs, it freezes in a variety of ways.  Each year the cave takes on a different formation, and changes with the amount of water that flows and freezes.

Winter is starting to wane.  As each season comes and goes, the Upper Peninsula provides a different adventure every time.  Find your adventures in the snow while you still can.  Spring is just around the corner!
